Dr. Humphrey is a licensed physical therapist with over 30 years experience teaching physical therapy and working clinically in outpatient orthopedics, sports medicine and women’s health. She is a highly regarded clinician known for her physical therapy expertise and caring professional manner.

Dissatisfied with increasing depersonalization and fragmentation of patient care becoming more common in large, corporate, profit-driven clinics, Ellen opened Physical Therapy of Lake Forest to offer patients a positive alternative. Unique features of Physical Therapy of Lake Forest include; taking time to listen to patients, completing thorough “whole-person” evaluations, establishing logical care plans, and providing evidenced-based, edept hands-on treatment. Ellen’s ability to explain complex, confusing medical information to patients is a bonus because it empowers them to effectively participate in their own care and to make lasting changes that enhance well-being, reduce pain and restore lost mobility.

Ellen has lived and worked locally for over 20 years, resulting in a dedicated patient following, solid physician referral base, and an established network of trusted medical specialists who, when needed can be called in to help maximize patient success.

Dr. Humphrey has served on the faculties of Northwestern University Physical Therapy and Human Movement Sciences (1994-2004) and Boston University Sargent College of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences (1990 – 1994). Ellen’s primary faculty responsibilities focused on teaching kinesiology, coordinating and teaching Musculoskeletal Evaluation and Treatment, and supporting students and faculty research.

Most recently, Ellen worked at Illinois Bone and Joint Instutute and before that, Northwestern Medicine Lake Forest Hospital in outpatient orthopedics and sports medicine. She received her Physical Therapy Doctorate from Rosalind Franklin University in June of 2018. Ellen has published and lectured extensively and enjoys working with physical therapy student interns.

Dr. Humphrey applies an eclectic hands-on approach drawing from numerous medical traditions and believes that coordinated communication with patients and referring physicians is key to patient success.
