Amy Shortal, PT, MS
Amy Shortal comes to Physical Therapy of Lake Forest from Still Water Physical Therapy where she was fortunate to be inspired by mentors who helped her to become a skilled clinician specializing in SI dysfunction, corrective exercise, soft tissue mobilization, and functional dry needling. She is proud of the six years she spent honing her skills at Still Water, where she has learned to treat the whole patient and appreciate the singularity of each individual body and spirit.
Amy graduated from Duke University in 1994 with a master’s degree in Physical Therapy. She has worked in a variety of settings including hospital, rehabilitation, geriatric and outpatient therapy in Georgia and California before returning home to the northern suburbs of Chicago with her husband, Brian, to raise their three children.
Amy has studied proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) with the Institute of Physical Art, Kinetic Control with Mark Comerford, Manual Therapy with Pete Emerson, and has completed her Functional Trigger Point Dry Needling training with KinetaCore. Amy is a Certified STOTT Pilates Trainer, and enjoys combining manual techniques with Pilates to help her patients learn how to move more efficiently from an injured state to participating in their regular Pilates classes.
Outside the clinic, Amy enjoys travel, swimming, exercising with her dog, Lucy, and watching her children’s many sporting events. In addition, Amy is always looking for and happy to give a good book recommendation!
