Ellen Humphrey, the founder of Physical Therapy of Lake forest, is a licensed, physical therapist with over 30 years of academic and clinical experience in orthopedics, sports medicine, and women’s health. Dr. Humphrey, a highly regarded clinician is appreciated for her good-natured, calm, and caring professional manner.
Ellen has lived and worked in Chicagoland since 1994 and has developed a solid social and professional network.
Before opening Physical Therapy of Lake Forest, Ellen worked for Illinois Bone and Joint Institute. Prior to IBJI, Ellen worked as a senior physical therapist at Northwestern Medicine Lake Forest Hospital in the Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine Clinic for 13 years. Dr. Humphrey has published and lectured extensively.
She has served on the faculty of Northwestern University Physical Therapy and Human Movement Sciences (1994-2004) and Boston University Sargent College of Rehabilitation Sciences (1990 – 1994).
Dedicated to continued learning and professional growth, Ellen earned her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Rosalind Franklin University in June 2018.
One feature of Ellen's practice is a unique body alignment evaluation, which includes photographic posture analysis, comprehensive musculoskeletal, foot structure and gait exam. This information helps motivate patients to make lasting positive health changes.
Ellen uses an eclectic, hands-on treatment approach drawing from numerous medical traditions. She specializes in posture, gait, and foot structure analysis and has extensive advanced manual therapy training, which facilitates successful treatment of complex spine and extremity problems. Ellen also casts and orders custom foot orthotics, and experience treating patients with TMJ dysfunction.
